YouTube launches “Playables” for Premium subscribers

Shortly after YouTube announced its crackdown on ad blockers, the platform shared plans on improving its paid Premium service to incentivize people to start paying for YouTube. So, in a way, not only do you skip the ads, but you also gain access to some cool features.

Playables is supposedly one of those features and reportedly, it’s now being rolled out to paying customers. Playables is a standalone section in your YouTube app or desktop’s website that lets you play arcade games. Some Premium users are now receiving notifications from YouTube saying they can now enable Playables through settings.

Once you allow the Playables tab, you can start playing one of the 37 games available right now, one of which is Angry Birds Showdown. The best part is that you don’t need to download anything – all of the games run on the desktop browser or mobile YouTube app.

We saw a similar approach from Netflix, but we are yet to see if it pans out well. In fact, even YouTube isn’t sure about it, so it says the service will be available until March 28, 2024 and will likely decide whether to keep the Playables table after that.
