Now, a new food-related craze known as ‘rat snacking’ is taking TikTok by storm. Here’s everything to know about the quirky trend.

What is the ‘rat snacking’ TikTok trend?

Rat snacking is all about indulging in small, random snacks that combine a variety of ingredients in sometimes unexpected ways. The name of the trend is a playful nod to the way rats are often portrayed as creatures that scavenge and eat whatever they can find.

This fad encourages people to embrace their impulsive culinary desires, creating “unhinged” snacks that are as unique as they are unconventional.

TikToker Abbey (abbeyskitchen) shared her ‘rat snack’ with her 748,000 followers, which is processed cheese slices, microwaved apples topped with cinnamon, brown sugar and pecans on bread.

“When your InstaCart shopper throws in an unexpected pack of processed cheese, you turn it into a budget-friendly ‘rat snack’ with whatever else you have in the fridge,” she captioned the clip.

Other examples include an odd mix of plain chips and chocolate, a combination of cauliflower, cheese, and chili sauce, and Pringles chips with ketchup, mustard, pickles, and cheddar cheese.
