Best gaming deals: $420 for Xbox Series X, gaming headsets, and more

Hello there, Polygon readers. It’s the weekend, so we’re doing our usual Saturday jig by sharing the best deals of the week across games and entertainment. Some of these deals have already made an appearance on the site, but just as many are first-timers debuting in this post. Halfway down the page, you’ll also find a small list of the top-selling products that we’ve written about.

Just to give you a quick recap of what’s included in this roundup, we’ve got a big sale on 4K Blu-rays from Arrow Video, mostly comprised of cult classics that you’ve either been hunting for, or maybe you’re only now realizing you didn’t know you needed them. Physical flicks aside, gaming deals are bit slow at the moment, but we have you covered with console, headset, and video game deals.

The best entertainment deals this week

At Barnes & Noble, several Blu-rays (and 4K counterparts) from Arrow Video are 50% off. This company’s catalog runs the gamut, with classic films that belong on any physical media collector’s shelves. Take your pick from films like Dune (directed by David Lynch), The Warriors, Ringu (the Japanese film that inspired The Ring), Carlito’s Way, The Conan Chronicles, and others, which are available at the lowest prices that we’ve seen them sell for. (Just a reminder, you’ll need a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player to play 4K discs. One we like is the Panasonic UB420-K, but a disc-based PS5 or Xbox Series X will also get the job done.)

If you have an insatiable appetite for human fle — I mean, AMC’s The Walking Dead, there’s a nice deal happening on the series’ 11-season, 54-disc (yes, fifty-four) collection. Normally $129.99, the DVD version is $94 at Walmart.

If you’re in the market for a fantastic wired gaming headset, I’d like to direct your attention to the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro that’s currently selling for $215 (was $249.99). This headset works with any modern console, and what sets it apart is its base station that offers a ton of customization — not to mention, allow the headset to receive Hi-Res audio through its Quad DAC amp. I reviewed this model in-depth at Polygon’s sister site The Verge during my time there.

The Arctis Nova Pro isn’t as versatile as its wireless counterpart, the Nova Pro Wireless, but at over $100 less, it has enough similarities to make it worth the compromise. This headset’s comfortable, and it features a stylish, retractable boom microphone. When you want to switch the audio from one console to the other, just hit a button on the base station, then you’re all set.

The holiday pricing for the Xbox Series X at $349.99 was phenomenal, but sadly it’s a thing of the past. However, reputable eBay seller Antonline is selling the console new with a second controller for $419.99. If you do a little math, subtracting the $50 or so value of the controller, then the console’s price here is well below the $400 mark. This is a great price, so hop on eBay’s offer here if you want Microsoft’s most powerful console for less than the retail cost at, say, Best Buy.

Do you like RPGs? If you haven’t given one of the Shin Megami Tensei games a try before, you can jump into the latest Switch-exclusive game, Shin Megami Tensei 5, for just $25.87. This title is made by Atlus, and — pardon to those who are already initiated in SMT’s backstory — there would be no Persona without this series. The many monsters that show up in Persona titles got their start (along with their many gameplay systems) in SMT, and this Switch title is the most polished version yet.

I’d like to take the opportunity to point you to a very popular bundle over at Humble that’s worth your consideration. You can get a heap of Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu RPG adventures and gaming aids (25 in total) for $25. Some of the proceeds collected during this sale will go to the World Wildlife Fund.

For newbies, you can start your descent into madness with the Call of Cthulhu Stater Set (usually $27 in paperback), and you’ll also get the Investigator Handbook (usually $33), plus the Keeper Rulebook (usually $48). It should take you a long while to run through the many adventures you’ll get in this bundle, including Pulp Cthulhu, Malleus Monstrorum, A Cold Fire Within, and more.
