The Way Home’s Jacob has disappeared to the most obvious place possible

The Way Home Season 3 finale saw the reverse of what we saw in Season 2 – instead of being found, Jacob disappeared. We didn’t get any answers to where, but there’s one likely outcome.
The short version of his timeline goes something like this. In 1999, eight-year-old Jacob ran off from the Port Haven summer carnival, only to fall into the pond after dog Finn went in there. He ended up in 1814, growing up under the care of ancestor Elijah.
Years later, Kat figured this out and went to rescue him. He was forced to come home to the present-day in 1816 after being wanted by Cyrus Goodwin, leading to an overwhelmed Del (everybody had assumed Jacob was dead). Jacob was still causing some chaos in Season 3, essentially putting the family in danger after trying to burn down Louis Goodwin’s vineyard.
I’m still missing some details out here, but the important thing is Jacob disappearing in the binge-worthy TV show‘s finale. We don’t exactly know where he’s gone, but can hazard a guess. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Jacob is likely in The Way Home’s 1816 timeline
Let’s call a spade a spade – Jacob was brought up there, so it’s most likely he’s headed straight back to Elijah in 1816. Why? His ultimate threat has now gone.
In one of the finale scenes of The Way Home Season 3 finale, the letters Del received are on the table, with a new one from Jacob. He says he doesn’t want to put his family in danger, thinking the letters will stop if he disappears.
She gets a call from Sam, explaining Jacob has left. “Well it’s going to be okay, I promise” Sam says as we cut to him clearly standing by the pond. “How do you know that, Sam?” “I just… do” Sam replies, looking over the water.
What Sam has to do with this – or rather, who Sam is – is another matter entirely, but the events of Season 3 suggest 1816 is the most likely place Jacob is hiding out. Firstly, the threat he’s been running away from has now gone. After the Landry farm fire, Cyrus almost died, losing the ability to speak.

Susanna is keeping Cyrus’ secret, running Port Haven as she sees fit under the guise of his leadership. As a Landry family ally, Jacob is now essentially safe to go back to the life he left behind. He loves Elijah, and getting vengeance in the present day didn’t exactly work out too well. He’s also now got the proof of Susanna’s real will to use against Cyrus’ sons.
However, this isn’t the only possibility. Casey left him in the lurch about what they really know about the Goodwins and Landrys, leaving out the back door before he could get his questions answered. There’s a chance he’s trying to track them down, though this could break the pond’s rules.
This leaves Colton. Jacob knows exactly what Colton found out on the day he died, and how he chose to go back in time to try and see his son one last time. Could a Collision Theory family reunion be on the cards?
We’ll find out in the now-confirmed The Way Home Season 4, though this won’t be until early 2026.
