Fortemedia Unveils ForteSound Coil-Based MEMS Speaker Product Family

Fortemedia, a Taiwan based supplier of MEMS microphones to some of the world’s leading smartphone and laptop manufacturers, has now announced the launch of its latest innovation, a coil-based MEMS speaker range. Its first product is the ForteSound FS01, which the company says extends the audio frequency response to 80kHz, with extended SPL Response and Low THD, delivering a new type of high-reliability, low-power audio transducer.

The FS01 is the first product in the new ForteSound MEMS speaker family, which uses a silicon process fabrication technology to produce the coil-based dynamic speaker. Using semiconductor processes that withstand SMT 260℃ reflow, this first MEMS speaker device from Fortemedia is said to offer improved stability and durability, ensuring long term performance over a product’s life, but more importantly, allowing for consistency in performance. As the company also explains, the FS01 was designed for low power consumption, which is critical in earbuds and wireless applications, not requiring a dedicated built-in amplifier or custom amplifiers to deliver the best sound quality. For ease of design, the FS01 device also supports the same signal interfaces as traditional speakers, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems without additional configuration.

The coil-based MEMS speaker is supposed to ideally target High Resolution Audio (HRA) applications, which typically can benefit from the extended frequency response. This coil-based architecture is what Fortemedia says is responsible for the driver’s wide frequency response, being able to take an audio signal directly from an SoC with no need of a customized power amplifier. The FS01 was designed to be applied as a tweeter in headphones and earbuds, targeting applications that can span from gaming to ultra high-end in-ear audio designs.

“We take immense pride in introducing the Coil-based MEMS Speaker FS01, a truly revolutionary product,” remarks Haiqing Lin, President and CEO of Fortemedia. “Fortemedia is committed to continuous innovation, bringing better audio solutions to our customers. The launch of FS01 will bring a more authentic and clear audio experience to users. We look forward to seeing the success of this revolutionary audio product in the market, and our ForteSound future research and development will focus on smaller size and low-frequency support technological innovations to continuously craft a premium and delightful auditory feast.”

Fortemedia says that the FS01 is now ready for sampling and its mass production is scheduled in Q3 2024. For product inquiries, developers and manufacturer should contact this email.
