Dragon Age TV Series Is A “Terrible Idea,” Says Game Series Creator

With Amazon Prime’s Fallout show becoming the talk of the town, people are brainstorming about what other classic gaming franchises they’d love to see transition to a TV series. Dragon Age creator David Gaider has a couple of ideas, but they don’t include his own RPG fantasy series.

In fact, Gaider stated on X (formerly known as Twitter) that a Dragon Age TV series is a “terrible idea.” Instead, the writer behind the Dragon Age trilogy would like “to see a David Lynch-style (on acid) Disco Elysium” show adapation “or maybe Banishers.” For those unaware about the latter suggestion, the action-RPG comes from Life Is Strange developer Don’t Nod. For more, check out GameSpot’s Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden review.

Now, what’s a bit funny regarding Gaider’s feelings about his own series for TV is that Dragon Age has received a TV show adaptation. In December 2022, Netflix launched Dragon Age: Absolution, an animated show that focused on an elf named Miriam and took place after Dragon Age: Inquisition but before the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Gaider is no longer working on Dragon Age and currently serves as co-founder at Summerfall Studios, which made Stray Gods.

The fourth entry in the franchise has been in development for years. Developer BioWare is planning a full reveal for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf this summer. It’s been reported the RPG is still set to come out later this year, though a delay into 2025 is possible. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is being developed with PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in mind, as the game won’t arrive on PS4 and Xbox One. Here is everything else we know about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
