Larian Studios has announced it intends to implement official mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3 that works across platforms.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting official cross-platform mod support this year.

Since launch, mods have been an important part of Baldur’s Gate 3. There are plenty of mods for the game that allow players to expand their party, reach higher levels, or simply get new cosmetic options.

Now, developer Larian Studios has announced plans to actively support the modding community in a way that will even let players on consoles get in on the fun.

Baldur’s Gate 3 official mod support coming this year

The announcement was made in a Discord post shared by Reddit user LeastLeopard155. Here, the devs revealed official mod support has been in the works “for a while” and the intention is “establishing a pipeline that lets mod authors release their mods across different platforms.”

“Together with the platform holders, we are working on making this a reality, and are forming a team to support mod curation,” they announced.

Larian Director of Publishing Michael Douse confirmed the plan and said mod support will launch “later in year.”

Larian, as Douse mentions, rarely announces plans ahead of time, but the decision to share this now likely stems from a recent issue. Hotfix 18 made the Script Extender modification incompatible, and while official updates breaking mods is common, Larian seems to want to mitigate such issues.

Initial reception to the announcement has been overwhelmingly positive, with many thrilled to hear even console players will be able to use mods.

“Larian once again proving you’re getting your moneys worth,” said one Reddit user.

No release date or window has been announced, though players can expect “the initial stages of modding support in our next big patch, which is still several months away.”
