A Minecraft Movie is in cinemas, but if you’re yearning for the mines from the comfort of your home, there’s only one place it’ll be available to watch on streaming.
After The Super Mario Bros Movie became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, A Minecraft Movie is on track to become one of 2025’s biggest releases.
The new video game adaptation follows four misfits (Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen) as they’re sucked into the Overworld, a strange, scary, and bonkers alternate dimension made out of blocks – where they meet Steve (Jack Black), a master crafter.
It’s not off to a great start on Rotten Tomatoes (51% at the time of writing), but with a massive opening weekend on the cards, it’s clearly the must-watch movie of the week. So, when can you watch it on streaming?
How to watch A Minecraft Movie now
A Minecraft Movie is exclusively available in theaters right now, having arrived in cinemas worldwide on April 4, 2025.
If you’ve not got your tickets yet… be quick. According to Deadline, pre-sales are said to have “popped” in the week before its release as the film’s marketing ramped up, whether it was memes, an unfinished copy of the film going viral, or the demand for its McDonald’s tie-in toys.
Where to stream A Minecraft Movie
Warner Bros.A Minecraft Movie will inevitably stream on Max, due to the fact that it’s a Warner Bros movie and it’s the studio’s official streaming platform.
The same can’t be said for every Warner Bros movie; for example, Red One was produced in collaboration with Amazon MGM, so it ended up on Prime Video first. Similarly, Jason Statham’s A Working Man will likely debut on Amazon’s streaming service.
However, A Minecraft Movie was produced by Warner Bros and Legendary Entertainment, with the latter studio also developing Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – both of which ended up on Max.
As for when it’ll be available to stream, it could depend on how successful it is. The Godzilla x Kong sequel took 97 days to come to streaming, while Dune: Part Two took just 81 days before it arrived on Max.
However, Barbie took a whopping 147 days until it dropped on Max, likely because it ended up becoming the biggest movie of 2023. So, if Minecraft does well at the box office, you could be waiting until July 2025 at the earliest.
Will A Minecraft Movie come to Netflix?
Warner Bros.A Minecraft Movie could come to Netflix at some point in the future, but it probably won’t be until sometime in 2026.
Max will be the priority for Warner Bros, as A Minecraft Movie could drive fresh sign-ups. However, there is precedent for new movies moving to Netflix after a stint on Max; for example, Dune: Part Two came to Netflix in January 2025.
That was a 225-day gap, so don’t expect to see A Minecraft Movie on Netflix any earlier than February 2026, if not later.
When will A Minecraft Movie be on digital?
Warner Bros.A Minecraft Movie could be available to buy or rent digitally as soon as May 2025.
This hasn’t been confirmed by Warner Bros, but let’s look at other movies’ timelines. Dune: Part Two was released on digital on April 16, 2024 – that was 46 days after its theatrical release.
Barbie came to digital on September 12, 2023 – that was 53 days after it hit cinemas.
So, it seems likely that you’ll be able to watch A Minecraft Movie at home in May (it’ll probably be later in the month).
