Will Assassin’s Creed Shadows have Steam Deck support at launch?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows developers have finally addressed whether or not the game will launch with Steam Deck support.

After several years of striking out on its own with PC releases, Ubisoft returned to Steam in late 2022 by launching AC Valhalla on the storefront.

Since then, a slew of other Ubisoft-published titles have made the jump, and the company even allows Ubisoft Connect users to log in to their accounts on Steam Deck.

It is no surprise, then, that prospective Assassin’s Creed Shadows players are wondering whether they will be able to use Steam Deck to join Naoe and Yasuke on their adventures in Feudal Japan.

Will Assassin’s Creed Shadows support Steam Deck?

Players have been asking for quite a while and Ubisoft developers have finally provided an answer. Yes, AC Shadows will be playable on Steam Deck at launch, according to a social media post shared on the franchise’s official X page.

The statement from the Assassin’s Creed team reads in part, “We are happy to say that we are supporting Steam Deck at launch and are currently awaiting the level of classification from Valve.” Ubisoft plans to reveal more information in the future.

That Ubisoft is awaiting classification details from Valve means the latter must be testing the game on the mobile device. Deck compatibility standards are judged based on four different categories – Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown.

Verified means the game works well. Playable describes a functional title that may require further tweaking by the user.

Unsupported means a game does not work on Steam Deck at all. Finally, experiences featured in the Unknown category have not been checked by Valve.

We’ll be sure to update this article as soon as Ubisoft shares additional information about AC Shadows’ Steam Deck support and settings.
