The Yellowjackets Season 3 finale is just around the corner, and the Episode 10 promo video promises more bloodshed, betrayal, and an answer to one of the horror show’s biggest mysteries. Warning: spoilers for Season 3 Episode 9 ahead!
Even though Season 3 saw the arrival of summer in the ‘90s timeline, the situation has been anything but sunny for the Yellowjackets. With rising tensions causing division among the gang, Coach Scott met his grisly end, and three unexpected strangers arrived at the worst possible time.
In the present day, Shauna has officially gone off the rails after Lottie met her untimely demise and Melissa (played by Hilary Swank) returned with the DAT tape. Oh, and now adult Van’s dead too.
Although a lot of the show’s mysteries have been solved, one question mark has continued to loom large over Yellowjackets since the very beginning: the identities of the Pit Girl and the Antler Queen. Warning: spoilers for Season 3 Episode 9 ahead!
Pit Girl and Antler Queen teased in Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10 promo
The new Season 3 finale promo hints that we’re finally about to find out both. Firstly, Shauna, our new head honcho, says, “We have to show the Wilderness our respect,” before Lottie declares, “We have to have another hunt.”
The girls are seen drawing cards, before heading out in the same Wilderness gear they’re seen wearing in the Pit Girl scene from Season 1. But there are other clues that her identity is about to be revealed.
At the end of Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 9, snow starts falling. In the finale promo, it looks like winter has well and truly arrived. Given the Pit Girl scene is set in winter and the timeline indicates their rescue is coming up, it will have to happen sooner rather than later.
As for the Antler Queen – the Yellowjacket leading the hunt and wearing a cloak that’s seemingly decorated with the Pit Girl’s hair – she’s shown right at the end of the finale promo.
We still don’t see her face, but there’s all the chance we’ll learn who she is in the Season 3 finale. It could be a hallucination, as there’s a glaring light behind her and she appears to have claws.
However, the light may have a far simpler explanation, with one fan speculating, “I bet when Lottie is hallucinating the Antler Queen at the end it’s actually some sort of emergency lights.”
This could be bang on the money. After all, their rescue is imminent, given not only the timeline but also the fact that, at the end of the latest episode, Misty digs out the transponder from the plane (the one she broke in Season 1).
She inspects its elements and has a realization, announcing, “I know how to get us home.” Only Nat is there, and she’s understandably shocked. “You have the f**king transponder?” she says.
How the rest of the gang will react (or whether Nat will even tell them) is yet to be seen. But what seems likely is that the girls will have their hunt, killing the Pit Girl, only for the rescue team to find them shortly after.
There’s one more clue that this could be the case. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ashley Lyle, who co-creates the show with Bart Nickerson, said Season 3 is “really when we start bringing those pieces together,” referring to the two timelines.
So, the girls’ unexpected rescue could be the perfect way to finish the third chapter, paving the way for a potential Season 4 where the timelines merge further – and we find out what life was like for the Yellowjackets when they return to the real world.
This is, of course, speculation at this stage. But if there’s one thing Yellowjackets has taught us, it’s that whatever happens, it’s going to be carnage.
