Yellowjackets Season 3 finale solves show’s biggest mystery

Yellowjackets Season 3 reached its bloody finale with Episode 10, ‘Full Circle’, which does, in fact, go full circle as it finally solves a mystery that’s been haunting us since the very first episode.
Up until this point, the Yellowjackets have been divided after Shauna was named the new leader, who takes a more brutal approach to Nat. This is one of many reasons the third chapter has been the horror show’s deadliest yet.
Coach Scott, adult Lottie, adult Van, and two of the frog strangers, Edwin and Kodiak, all met their maker, but only one of those was left unexplained until the Yellowjackets Season 3 finale – Lottie.
Not only did we find out who pushed Lottie down the stairs, but the series also revealed who the Pit Girl is. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Yellowjackets Season 3 finale reveals the Pit Girl
Well done if you guessed the Pit Girl is Mari – you were correct, as is confirmed in Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10.
You see, in the finale, Akilah’s animals all die, just like in her vision. Nat tries to speculate whether it means the Wilderness wants them to go home, but Shauna and Lottie decide it’s time for another hunt.
They argue that the deaths up to this point didn’t count, as Edwin and Coach Scott were their “enemies”, and so they need to kill one of their own.
As they prepare, Van and Taissa have a private chat and agree to rig the cards so that newbie Hannah draws the Queen of Hearts. They both don’t want each other to die, and they don’t trust Hannah, so it seems like a simple solution.
However, Shauna notices something’s up as they go round the circle, and so she changes places. This messes up the order, and Mari ends up drawing the card in question.
Now, initially, it seems like the hunt is different to the Pit Girl scene. If you remember back to Yellowjackets Season 1, she’s running through the forest wearing nothing but a white night gown, whereas Mari has brightly colored clothes on.
But midway through the hunt, she realizes her clothes make her an easy target, so she strips down to her nightgown and continues to run. Finally, after bumping into Lottie, she falls straight into the pit – the one Coach Scott discovered and Travis set up with spikes.
The girl who looks into the pit and sees Mari’s twitching body? It was Van all along. Even though the original Pit Girl scene made it seem as if Van was pleased with the outcome, in reality, she’s devastated.
She walks over to Tai in tears, saying, “This is our fault.” Shauna seems to be the only one enjoying it, ordering Nat to gut Mari and demanding that the group bring her hair. And this leads us onto the next big mystery solved in the Yellowjackets Season 3.
Who is the Antler Queen?

As opposed to the Pit Girl, it’s often been suggested that Lottie is the Antler Queen first seen in Season 1. However, the Season 3 finale reveals it’s actually Shauna.
While the girls prepare their “feast”, members of the team place the various garments on Shauna, starting with locks of Mari’s hair on her cloak, followed by the head dress over the antlers.
As this is happening, adult Shauna narrates her new diary entry, where she admits, “I think we can’t or won’t remember it clearly because we recognize deep down that we were having so much fun.
“That’s the terrible truth we left out there buried, along with the people we called our friends. Except it’s all coming back to me now. The danger, the thrill, the person I was back then. Not a wife or a mother. I was a warrior. I was a f**king queen.”
It truly is a ‘Full Circle’ moment, something teen Shauna actress Sophie Nélisse opened up about in a chat with Business Insider. She told the outlet that she wasn’t surprised to find out who the Antler Queen is after seeing how Shauna took over the leadership from Nat.

“Is that enough to soothe her need for vengeance and power?” she asked, adding, “I’m curious to see how long she can hold that power.”
As for Mari being the Pit Girl, actress Alexa Barajas told Deadline she’s long suspected it’s her character.
“I didn’t always know, but I did have a hunch,” she said. “I think after watching the pilot, I saw this girl running in the woods, and I said, ‘I think I look a whole lot like her.’ So, I had a feeling that this was where it was gonna all end up, and I am so excited that we finally got to do it.”
Barajas went on to highlight how Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 1 foreshadowed this moment when Mari fell in Coach Scott’s pit.
