Why isn’t The Rookie Season 7 Episode 19 on this week?

With its last episode ending on a make-or-break moment for Tim and Lucy, you might be wondering: why isn’t The Rookie Season 7 Episode 19 on this week?
From 9-1-1 Season 8 or Grey’s Anatomy Season 21, ABC have been eating good this year. The Rookie Season 7 is the cherry on the cake, fleshing out the 10-episode offering we got with Season 6 last year.
The binge-worthy TV show has been dishing out drama like there’s no tomorrow this year, including Henry and Abigail’s surprise breakup, Nolan being told he can’t adopt, and the return of Ridley in Episode 16.
With two cliffhangers hanging in the balance, you might be wondering why The Rookie Season 7 Episode 19 isn’t on this week. Annoyingly, there’s a simple explanation.
Why isn’t The Rookie Season 7 Episode 19 on this week?
There’s a simple reason why The Rookie Season 7 Episode 19 isn’t on this week – it doesn’t exist. Episode 18, airing on May 13, 2025, marked the season finale.
We had two huge cliffhangers in the season finale, kicking off with Tim and Lucy’s rocky relationship. In the final scenes, Tim comes to her apartment, cooking for her after a long night on her new shift rota.
Finally realizing how much he’s hurt her by instigating their breakup, and gives a heartfelt speech about doing a lot of work in therapy to fix what’s broken inside, and wants to take the next steps. Tim asks Lucy to move in with him, but there’s a problem – Lucy fell asleep, having missed the entire speech. Where does their relationship go from here… if anywhere?
Elsewhere, secrets have been stolen from an NSA facility, meaning someone leveraged information to get immunity. Annoyingly for the team, that person is Monica, walking past them as a free woman to their disbelief. Whatever information she has, though, is something we don’t yet learn.

Will there be The Rookie Season 8?
The Rookie Season 8 has already been renewed, but it won’t be back on screens until mid-2026.

There are some key narrative points to pick up on when the time comes, despite the fairly long wait. Lucy Chen finally became a sergeant, but is working the night shift. Tim wants to make her a mysterious offer, while FBI Agent Matthew Garza revealed the show’s nemesis Monica had been let out of jail. Why? She’s been giving the government secret intel, and we’re yet to find out what that is.
Showrunner Alexi Hawley told TV Line fans should feel like the show picks up where things left off.
“I think [The Rookie season 8 will] be fairly continuous — not literally next day, but within a fairly short amount of time,” he explained. “There’s some time-sensitive stuff that we left hanging, that feels like we should [resolve soon] for the audience. I don’t think we should jump forward too far in time,” he explained.
