Why Hanrahan from The Last of Us Season 2 looks so familiar

The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 just introduced a brand-new character: Hanrahan, a high-ranking member of the WLF, and there’s a reason you recognize the actor who plays her.
This week’s The Last of Us opens with a jaw-dropping flashback that centers on Isaac, the infamous commander of the Washington Liberation Front (anyone who played Part 2 knew exactly what he was capable of before the episode began).
As a FEDRA convoy rolls through Seattle (with some of the most obnoxious, “thoughtless” troops you can stomach), they encounter a group of unarmed rebels.
Isaac steps out alone to meet them, and he comes face to face with Hanrahan, one of Season 2’s most mysterious characters from the outset.
Who plays Hanrahan in The Last of Us?
Hanrahan is played by Alanna Ubach, a prolific actress across movies and television.
For example, when it comes to TV, Ubach played Susan Bennett in the Ted series and Suze Howard in Euphoria. She’s also had smaller roles in Mythic Quest, Californication, Friday Night Lights, and The West Wing.
She has an enormous list of voice acting credits, including:
- Clueless Girl in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
- Dr. Josefina Bishop in Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Yopi Candalaria in Filthy Rich
- Lola Boa in Brandy & Mr Whiskers
- Liz Allan in The Spectacular Spider-Man
- Osysa in The Legend of Vox Machina
- Mamá Imelda in Coco
When it comes to movies, you may have seen Ubach in Venom: The Last Dance, Bombshell, A Haunted House, Bad Teacher, Meet the Fockers, and Sister Act 2. Notably, she played Serena McGuire in both Legally Blonde movies.
Is Hanrahan in The Last of Us games?

No, Hanrahan isn’t in The Last of Us Part 1 or 2. She has been created exclusively for the show, but her character does have some basis in the games.
All we know at this point is that she’s one of the leaders in the WLF. She’s the one who organises the meeting with Isaac – when he’s a FEDRA commanding officer, no less – and she welcomes him to “the fight.”
In the game, we’re told Isaac became one of the earliest Wolves amid disillusionment and fury with the government’s rule in Chicago, and he served under Emma and Jason Peterson. Unfortunately, they were killed by FEDRA, leaving him to command the WLF.
So, while it’d be disengenuous to suggest Hanrahan is at all based on Emma and Jason, nor is there any evidence to suggest she’s somehow a mix of the two (unseen) characters, there’s precedent for Isaac dealing with another higher-ranking WLF member.
