If you’ve emotionally recovered from the trauma of last week, it won’t be long until The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 drops on HBO and Max – and this is what time it comes out.
Are you okay? It’s okay to say no, especially after being forced to watch Joel get beaten to death by Abby two episodes into the new season of The Last of Us, all while Ellie screamed and begged her to stop, only for Abby to stick the sharp end of a broken golf club into his neck.
Sadly, it was inevitable. In Part 2, the original sequel to the game, this is the inciting event that kicks the story into motion, and Episode 3 is expected to put Ellie on a path that will change her forever.
Last week’s episode was year-defining television, so Episode 3 is another must-watch.
The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 release time
The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 will be available to watch on Sunday, April 27, at 9pm ET/PT on HBO and Max.
It will be available on HBO’s TV channel and Max at the same time. If you’re in the UK, you’ll need a Sky or Now TV subscription to watch it, and if you’re in Canada, you’ll need to sign up for Crave.

What will happen in Episode 3?
From the trailer, The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3 is expected to address the fallout of Joel’s death and how it impacts Ellie and the wider community of Jackson.
Ellie will obviously be traumatised by it – in the first seconds of the trailer, she wakes up screaming. We’ll also see Tommy with Joel’s body as Jackson recovers from the rampage of infected in Episode 2.
While it isn’t clear if we’ll see Ellie make it to Seattle, there’s a brief glimpse of the WLF in the preview – which means we could possibly meet Isaac, or certainly learn a bit more about him before his introduction in a later episode.
Speaking to THR, co-showrunner Craig Mazin admitted he knew there’d be an intense reaction to Joel’s death from viewers.
“It’s important that people be upset but also that they now connect to the characters in the show who are just as upset, if not more so, than they are. What do they do? Also, characters that we think are gone are not always gone,” he explained.
“But I’m not concerned that ratings will fall off the edge of a cliff, I don’t think that’s how it works. I also know how powerful the rest of this story is and also how invested we are in these other relationships. But Joel will always be there.”
