What If Cast Away Were A Horror Movie? Evil Dead’s Sam Raimi’s Next Movie Fills That Void
The next film project from Evil Dead and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi has been revealed, and it’s another horror-thriller project that apparently bears some similarities to the 2000 Tom Hanks movie Cast Away. Deadline reports that Raimi is making a two-hander horror-thriller that takes place on an island, with a story that is described as a mix between the movies Misery and Cast Away.
Misery is Rob Reiner’s adaptation of the Stephen King book, in which a famous author gets in a car crash and is rescued by a fan of his novels, and then his own nightmare begins. Cast Away is the Robert Zemeckis classic survival story of a man who survives on a deserted island.
The new Raimi film, titled Send Help, is based on an original story by the screenwriting pair Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who are known for the horror movies Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and Friday the 13th (2009). They also wrote the very-non-horror-movie Baywatch starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
That’s about all there is to know about the new Raimi film, but Deadline reported that it’s expected to have a theatrical release instead of being sold to a streamer.
Raimi is best known for Evil Dead and the Spider-Man movies starring Tobey Maguire. His most recent film was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He also directed the movies Oz the Great and Powerful, Drag Me to Hell, and Army of Darkness. Raimi was at one point attached to direct the Warcraft movie based on the game, but he left the project and claimed Blizzard “mismanaged” the film.
