Wendy’s rivals McDonald’s and Taco Bell as fan-favorite item returns

Wendy’s has quietly brought back chicken tenders in select U.S. locations, years after removing them from its menu. The limited test has sparked excitement among fans who have long awaited their return.

Launched in 2003, Wendy’s offered a chicken tender option they called the Homestyle Chicken Strips until they were removed from the menu in 2019.

Now, according to reports online, the fast-food giant is back with another tender option.

The new chicken tenders were first spotted by social media users and food influencers, including snack_qween_, who shared images of the new offering in a post on Instagram.

“Wendy’s chicken tenders are juicy and the breading is so good, and my location brought them out to me fresh so they were a 10/10 and that’s without their honey mustard or bbq sauce to amplify the goodness!” she said.

Wendy’s releases chicken tenders

The tenders come as fast-food chains continue to expand their chicken offerings. Back in May, McDonald’s released the McCrispy Strips in preparation for the long-awaited return of its Snack Wraps on July 10.

In June, Taco Bell joined the chicken movement and released crispy chicken strips that are also available in a burrito and taco form for a limited time.

Currently, the chicken tenders appear to only be available at participating Wendy’s restaurants as part of a quiet market test. The company has not officially announced the return, and it remains unclear whether the tenders will become a permanent nationwide menu item.
