Warzone trailer secretly reveals return of two iconic Modern Warfare guns

A new Call of Duty video appears to confirm that two iconic Modern Warfare weapons will return to Warzone amid the free-to-play game’s ongoing struggles.

Warzone isn’t in the best of health, having suffered a significant player count drop in December 2024. Cheaters and hackers still plague the experience and it doesn’t help that users continue to await the day Activision sunsets the Urzikstan map.

Leaks suggest the free-to-play game’s original Verdansk map will reemerge for Season 3, news that should spark some hope for frustrated players. However, COD leaker TheGhostOfHope claims Verdansk could mark Warzone’s last shot at redemption.

If Season 3 fails to boost the player numbers, a “Warzone 3” may not be on the docket for COD’s 2026 installment. Now, it looks like Verdansk isn’t the only piece of returning content that could reel long-time fans back in.

Warzone brings back two classic MW assault rifles

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, the Call of Duty social pages shared a new video highlighting the women in COD games and those in the community.

CharlieIntel spotted something else amid the action, though. In the final 10 seconds of the video, two characters are seen wielding weapons not currently available in the Warzone loot pool – the CR-56 AMAX and the Kilo 141 assault rifles.

Both of these ARs were last present in Modern Warfare (2019) and Call of Duty: Mobile.

Since Activision has yet to make a formal announcement, it’s unclear if and when Warzone and Black Ops 6 players can expect the AMAX and Kilo to reenter the fray.

It’s possibly they’ll arrive alongside Season 3, which will now become available on April 3. The seasonal update was previously expected to go live on March 20.

Regardless of the specifics, some players have expressed skepticism about the AMAX and Kilo tease since Warzone remains in a rough state.

One person replied to the CharlieIntel tweet saying in part, “This is great and all, but adding these nostalgic additions will be short-lived and offset by the critical condition [of] the current state of the game…”

However, others believe this is a “good step in the right direction.”

Time will tell whether these types of additions can turn the tide in Warzone’s favor.
