Warzone Season 3 brings back controversial Roze skin without fixing pay-to-win issue

Warzone Season 3 finally marks Roze’s return, but Activision locked the controversial operator skin behind a $30 paywall.
Roze first appeared in Modern Warfare 2019, and her operator skin became a massive problem in Verdansk because locating enemies wearing her all-black outfit in dark rooms was a nightmare. It often resulted in players getting taken out without ever knowing what hit them.
The operator went on to be in MW2 and MW3 but wasn’t nearly as effective because Infinity Ward nerfed the skin in 2022 and increased the brightness of the operator’s outfit by 70%. Despite the nerf, players still complained about the operator skin being too difficult to see.
When leaks surfaced that Roze would return in BO6, Warzone streamer Swagg didn’t ask for a nerf but suggested that it should be available to all players through completing challenges instead of a paywall.
Unfortunately for Swagg and other fans who hoped the devs would listen, Activision has other plans.
Roze returns as BlackCell operator in Season 3
Rebranded as R0-Z3, the iconic operator skin is the operator for the Season 3 BlackCell, which costs $30. In addition to the Battle Pass, the BlackCell features a 10% XP boost, 1,100 CoD Points, and other cosmetic items.
CharlieIntel reported that Roze would only be available in the BlackCell, and players are disappointed but not surprised.
“They know people will buy this due to its popularity from wz1 (myself included), so they lock it behind a $30 wall,” one player responded. “Crazy but good business strategy on their part.”
“Having people re-buy a skin they already bought 5 years ago is insane, then again, it’s impossible to be shocked at this.”
It remains to be seen how difficult it will be to see the new Roze skin, but there is reason to be optimistic that it will be less challenging than before.
Raven Software overhauled Verdansk with new textures and improved visuals, emphasizing making enemies more noticeable in dark buildings.
We will better understand how effective these changes are when the map launches alongside Season 3 on April 3.
