Viz Media’s SDCC 2024 panel announces Ultraman and Spider-Man team up

Tsuburaya Productions’ Ultraman and Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man are coming together for Ultraman: Along Came a Spider, Viz Media announced at San Diego Comic-Con. While Ultraman has crossed over with Marvel characters before, this is the first time Spider-Man and Ultraman will team up.

The story and writing are done by Shinji Oishi and Shigenobu Matsumoto, with the art from Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris illustrator Tomo Hirokawa. The comic will have simultaneous Japanese and English releases in comic shops and via the Viz Manga digital service starting on Aug. 14.

The official plot description is below:

On Marvel Earth, Spider-Man joins forces with the Avengers to battle Doctor Doom in New York City, but when several civilians are killed in a building collapse as a result, Spider-Man becomes demoralized and finds himself whisked away in a strange spacecraft called the Interdimensional Train. Doctor Doom stows aboard and both find themselves in the Tokyo of the Ultraman universe! Witnessing Ultraman battle a giant Kaiju, Doom craves the Giant of Light’s power and joins forces with Alien Mefilas and his army of Kaiju from the Monster Graveyard to steal it.

This isn’t the only Ultraman and Marvel crossover on the horizon. In fact, the previously announced Ultraman x Avengers crossover drops the same day. That one comes from Kyle Higgins (The Rise of Ultraman) and Mat Groom (The Trials of Ultraman) as writers and Francesco Manna (The Amazing Spider-Man) as the artist. Couple that with the new Ultraman: Rising movie out this year, and we’re cooking up quite the Hot Ultraman Summer.
