Valve CEO Gabe Newell explains why he still works 7 days a week

Valve CEO Gabe Newell has just opened up about his surprising daily routine while living on a boat.

Whether or not you’re a hardcore gamer, chances are you’ve heard of Gabe Newell, or perhaps ‘Gaben’, at least once. He’s a well-known figure in the industry, given that he co-founded Valve and led the creation of Steam, which is now one of the biggest platforms and marketplaces.

With a sweet chunk of change in the bank, you might wonder just what this billionaire’s life is really like on a day-to-day basis.

Sure, we’ve seen celebrities and influencers spill their routine, but what is it like for a true legend of the gaming industry? Well, now we have a good idea.

Gabe Newell shares his daily routine and explains that he enjoys working

In an interview with the Zalkar Saliev channel on YouTube, Newell revealed that he often goes scuba diving while living on a boat, and even though he works seven days a week, he really enjoys the process.

“I get up, I work, I go scuba-diving, work some more, [then] either go on a second scuba dive or I go to the gym and work out,” he said. “I live on a boat, so I just hang out with everybody on the boat. Then I work.”

“I work seven days a week: I’m working from my bedroom, as you can tell. I like working, it’s fun, to me it doesn’t feel like work. The kinds of things that I get to do every day are super-awesome,” he added.

Newell then brought up the topic of retirement, explaining that when you retire, you’d want to “stop doing your horrible job and then go do what is most fun and entertaining.”

In that sense, the billionaire mentioned that he “has been retired for a long time.”

Nowadays, the Steam co-founder revealed that he’s been occupied with a company working on an “aerosol pathogen detection device,” which he describes as a tool that enables you to see what pathogens are in the air, all while juggling his responsibilities with Steam and brain chip company Starfish Neuroscience.

Despite keeping busy and working all the time, Gabe said it’s not like he’s “up late at night slaving away on stuff.” To him, it’s more like “I can’t go to sleep because I’m having fun.”
