Twitch streamer goes viral explaining how $10K payout doesn’t cover expenses

A Twitch streamer has sparked a wave of viral criticism after claiming that a $10K check from the platform isn’t enough to live on.
Streamers comparing their jobs to more traditional forms of employment almost always causes some controversy, and this latest situation is no different.
Twitch streamer ‘snowwcone’ has gone viral after revealing how making $120K yearly from the Amazon-owned platform isn’t enough, because of how expensive being a creator actually is.
Twitch streamer’s massive expenses spark backlash
During a broadcast, snowwcone explained how keeping up with content creation is extremely expensive for her and listed out why her costs are so high.
“You can get a $10K check from Twitch, what the f**k is a $10K check when you gotta spend $5K on trips just to travel, $500 on setup sh*t, $2000 on your rent, $200 on WiFi, $200 on an IRL toolkit?” she blasted.
“You gotta pay your clippers, pay your YouTube editors. Chat, I don’t think you realize, but I’m going in the negative doing this sh*t.”
snowwcone explained the situation more during her broadcast, noting how she was at a point in her career where she needed to travel to events to elevate her content and make connections.
“We’re at a stage where all the money gets reinvested into the career. All my money from streaming goes back into streaming. I think this month I made negative $1000 cause every penny goes to trips, paying editors, paying clippers, or buying sh*t for the setup, or buying food or plane tickets or stuff to make content.
Your Twitch paycheck could be $11K a month, but when you have to spend $5K on trips alone to travel to make connections. I have $3K a month on bills alone, rent, WiFi, phone.”
Footage of snowwcone’s rant exploded on social media, being viewed over 11M times, with many users baffled by how much she spends.
“How do you squander 10K?” one remarked.
“Imagine spending $60k a year on travel,” said another.
“If you’re paying that much for just WiFi, then you need to switch providers cause I have 1gig for $90 a month,” someone else chimed in.
“Not knowing how to live and create content on a 10k/month check is a skill issue,” VTuber Elly commented.
As for why snowwcone doesn’t cut down on expenses by editing videos herself, she claimed she’s too busy live on Twitch, in meetings, or traveling.
This isn’t the first time streamers have come under fire while discussing how their jobs differ from standard employment. We’ve seen creators argue that streaming is more difficult than most 9-5 jobs, and some, such as Dafran, have even tried their luck at typical jobs only to eventually return to Twitch.
