Following the success of the first remake, the Tony Hawk series is reportedly releasing the next installment soon.
In 2020, Activision revived the classic skateboarding series 21 years after the original title came out. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
In 2024, when the series celebrated its 25th anniversary, Tony Hawk himself revealed he was in talks with Activision to create “something the fans will truly appreciate.”
However, during an interview with andyTHPS on Twitch, Hawk revealed that a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 remake was cancelled after Activision “took other pitches from other studios, like, ‘what would you do with the THPS title?’ And they didn’t like anything they heard, and then that was it.”
Everything must have been ironed out because a new game is reportedly in the works.
Next Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater title “releasing soon”
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 featured 21 professional skateboarders, including two-time Thrasher Skater of the Year winner Tyshawn Jones. On an episode of the Breakfast Club, Jones revealed, “They got a new one they remastered that’s about to come out.”
CharlieIntel shared the quote, which was enough to spark excitement about the upcoming game. However, fans are divided about which title they want to see get a remake, as there is a deep catalog of options.
“Tony Hawk’s Underground would be a legendary remaster if considered,” one fan suggested.
“American Wasteland would be a perfect remaster, still waiting for the day,” a second commenter argued.
It’s unclear if 3 and 4 would still be considered after the initial cancellation, but plenty of options are on the table. After all, there are 12 mainline series entries and four spin-offs that could be in line for a remake.
Tony Hawk isn’t the only upcoming skateboard game, as a new Skate title will be released in early access in 2025.
