This New Tamagotchi Is Totally Egg-Cellent, Because That’s What It’s Made Of
Bandai Namco will release a Tamagotchi Original next year that not only looks like an egg, but actually contains recycled eggshells. That’s not all, either. The packaging for the device–featuring the programming from the 1990s–will be made with recycled paper when it comes out February 5, 2025.
$30
The Celebration Egg variant of the Tamagotchi Original will be an Amazon exclusive and is supposed to “highlight the love for the planet,” according to the item’s description. The device will cost $30, with seven adults attainable from the digital pet.
Earlier this year, the Tamagotchi Connection was revived to celebrate its 20th anniversary. This device was the evolved version of the original Tamagotchi and let owners link up with each other. Players can even have their digital pets get married, so this planet-friendly Tamagotchi Original isn’t the first time Bandai Namco has capitalized on nostalgia.
But Bandai Namco also has a new line of Tamagotchi, too. The Tamagotchi Uni was launched last year and features online connectivity. It also comes with a wrist strap, making the device resemble a watch.
Tamagotchi originally released in Japan in 1996 before arriving in the US in 1997. Bandai Namco notes that roughly 91 million Tamagotchi devices have been sold as of March 2023.
