This is Samsung’s first Android XR headset
Hot on the heels of Google’s announcement of Android XR, which, as the name implies, is an operating system for extended reality devices, Samsung has come out and revealed that it’s been working with Google and Qualcomm to create the Android XR platform “for many years”.
But wait, there’s more! Samsung is bringing the first headset designed for Android XR, and the device is codenamed Moohan, which means infinity in Korean. It is “equipped with state-of-the-art displays, passthrough capabilities and natural multi-modal input”, and Samsung says it will be “your spatial canvas” to explore the world through Google Maps, enjoy YouTube videos, or plan trips with Gemini. Yes, Gemini – Bixby received zero mentions in the official press release, make of that what you will.
As you may have expected, Samsung claims the headset will be light and ergonomically optimized “to ensure maximum comfort during use”. Those are all the “details” revealed today, but expect to hear much more about Moohan next year, if the recent rumors are correct.
