Alice and Noah’s relationship has come to an end in The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8, but trying to patch things up has led her straight to Max – and that’s important.
While Alice had a thing with Nick in the 1999 timeline (which is quite weird in the present day), Noah has been her boyfriend in day-to-day life. Noah’s trying to make an extra effort with her, but Alice doesn’t feel she can let things continue.
Why? Previous episodes of The Way Home have led her to believe Casey is her child from the future, with Max being the father. If she’s right, why get caught up in a relationship that isn’t going to go anywhere?
Because this TV show isn’t that straightforward, that’s why! Alice is truly in two minds, with The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8 leading to an alarming development.
Alice and Max’s connection changed in The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8
When Alice has a change of heart, she tries to find Noah and the Fish & Chip van. It’s only Max there, who tells her Noah has left town – and that leads to a change in their dynamic.
We see the two earlier on in the episode when Max stops by to talk to Alice about a school project. They get talking about chess instead… and let’s just say the vibes aren’t kind. Max wants to wipe the floor with her courtesy of his ‘impeccable’ skills, and Alice is totally over it.
However, things have totally changed when she comes looking for Noah. Max offers to make her food, which is possibly the first time in forever he’s shown some form of kindness to her. Alice is totally accepting, breaking out into a smile at Max’s offer.
It’s one of the final scenes in the episodes, meaning it’s definitely something we’re going to pick up in the final stretch toward Episode 10. If we put two and two together, we’re starting to understand the story of how Alice and Max ended up together in the first place.
Remember: even though both fans and Alice think Casey could be Alice’s child, there’s been no actual confirmation that this theory is correct. But given there’s been so much talk about it, there is likely an element of truth to the story.
Now Noah is quite literally out of the picture, and teen Nick looks less likely to spring up out of the pond than ever, the path is clear for Max to make an impression. Whether he’ll stay this nice for good, though, remains to be seen.
