The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8 ending is by far the most jaw-dropping scene yet

Yes – Jacob and Colton did meet in 1814! It’s already been revealed in Susanna’s sketch, but The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8 proves that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
When it comes to the Landry family, the list of time travelers keeps on growing. Alice and Kat were first, with Elliot soon following suit. In the 1974 timeline, we learned Colton had the same abilities. How? We still don’t know.
While some think this leads back to another forgotten character, the binge-worthy TV show isn’t likely to give us any solid answers for a while.
Still, there’s another question The Way Home needs to answer first – why is Colton time-traveling? Thankfully, we’re getting the start of an answer in Season 3 Episode 8, and it’s jaw-dropping. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Colton meets Jacob in 1814
We already knew Jacob had been to see Colton thanks to Susanna’s sketch, but now we get to see it play out for ourselves. A soaking wet Colton arrives at the Landry house dazed and confused, with Elijah and Jacob introducing themselves. Thanks to Susanna giving Elijah a copy of the Almanac, he learns it’s 1814, playing off that he doesn’t know what’s going on.
We also see what actually happened while Susanna was sketching, with Colton saying, “The time I spent here is equal to the time I’m gone.” Where does this come from? “It’s something my Grandma used to say.” Fern… we know you know more than you’re letting on.
Colton tells Jacob they’ve built something that will “last for generations,” asking him to plant as much rye and potatoes as they possibly can this year and the next (think: the year without summer isn’t too far away).
Thomas and Kat kiss… again

Yep! Kat has gone straight back to 1816, with Thomas revealing he was secretly holding out hope that this would happen. She’s frustrated by the kiss, saying she has “a lot of things she needs to work out in her head.” As soon as she gets back, Elliot knows something is up.
Later on, Kat gets Elliot on his own and tells him about the kiss with Thomas. Elliot accuses Kat of trying to “even the score,” with Kat saying she doesn’t want to fight. “Something is broken here, and I don’t know how we fix it. We shouldn’t have to try so hard to make this work” Kat says. “Maybe we have our answer then” Elliot replies, effectively breaking the pair up.
Noah and Alice break up too

Every time Alice gets a text from Noah, her heart sinks. Thinking all the signs point to Casey being her child with Max Goodwin, she doesn’t feel like continuing to be with Noah is fair.
When he turns up at the house with a bunch of flowers, Alice brushes him off. Noah asks what’s been wrong with her, leading to Alice telling him she “doesn’t see this working out… I really don’t wanna hurt you.” Noah replies “Well, it’s a bit late for that,” shoving the flowers in her arms before leaving.
Alice heads to the van to find Noah later, saying she’s ready to commit and not be scared of the future. Instead she finds Max, who tells her Noah has left town “to clear his head.”
Evelyn overhears Colton’s proposal to Del

In 1974, Colton is forlorn over Del leaving. Evelyn is trying her best to cheer him up, telling Alice she thinks now is the time she can be with Colton forever.
Colton pens a song for Del, with Alice trying to get clues from his lyrics. The pair finish it together, leading to Jason wanting to cut a demo of it. This explains the recording we first heard in Episode 1.
Colton has a second song up his sleeve, adding it to the demo. Alice seemingly recognizes this, remembering adult Colton and Del’s life together before he died. Evelyn enters the store, overhearing Colton saying he planned to propose to Del before she left Port Haven.
Alice later finds Evelyn floating face-down in the pond, saying she is destined to surrender to a love she cannot have. Knowing what happens in the future, Alice tells Evelyn Colton’s heart is meant for Del, describing her poems as “sad,” and basically doing enough damage for Evelyn to run off crying. Ouch.
The year without sun causes problems

Kat flees back to 1816 and into the arms of Thomas. Where it’s only been two days in the present, it’s been three months in the past, and the year without sun is starting to take hold. The people are turning on Cyrus, and they’re angry.
With Del, Elliot, and Jacob all feeling awful, Jacob says it’s “his turn” to fix things, diving into the pond to get Kat. She finds Susanna first, revealing she got in through the secret tunnels in the house. Susanna says Kat only managed this because Cyrus “let her,” with Cyrus revealing he knows about Susanna’s painting of Kat.
Cyrus accuses Susanna of aiding Jacob in his escape, saying he can see in her eyes the “love she cannot muster” for him. Outside, the townsfolk break through Cyrus’ gates, stating “the deal is off.” He’s promised to protect Susanna’s chosen family, meaning Elijah is now in danger.
Cyrus turns the town against the Landrys

In a bid to regain control, Cyrus tells the townsfolk the Landrys are to blame for being the only family with crops that have weathered the summer. Kat is publicly branded a witch, with Thomas watching on from afar. “Elijah Landry has made a deal with the devil for his soil” Cyrus cries, before leading the town to his door.
Kat, Susanna, and Thomas get to Elijah first, with Jacob arriving at the same time to collect Kat. Elijah refuses to leave, but rocks are soon thrown through their window. Kat tells the town about what happens in the future, which goes down like a sack of spuds. It’s soon an all-out brawl to torch the Landry house, with Cyrus only stopping when he learns Susanna is inside.
While the rest escape the fire, Jacob and Cyrus are inside when the roof caves in. Knowing he doesn’t die, Kat refuses to save Cyrus, with a figure dragging Jacob about and saving his life. The figure? Teen Colton, who has seemingly returned. “This is all my fault” he exclaims before fleeing.
Del struggles with her memories of Colton in The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8

Through The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8, another thread has been followed. Del is struggling with thinking Colton knew Jacob wasn’t actually dead the entire time, convincing teen her Fern was talking nonsense back in 1974. She sits down with a version of him in the present day, asking why he didn’t have faith in her for all of those years.
“They will find the answers I need, the answers you can’t give me” Del says about Kat and Alice. We also see Nick grapple with whether to return to Port Haven, giving Alice back her hoor charm from Season 1.
We now know where Colton came from in Episode 2
As Cyrus gives his rousing speech to the townsfolk about Elijah, we see Colton running through the woods, diving feet-first into the pond. When he emerges, Alice finds him in the scene we’ve already seen. He asks if everything was okay at the farm, with Alice replying “Sure, why?”
