The Way Home Season 3 finale was explosive, but Casey and Jacob’s bond was quickly swept under the rug. However, showrunners might have dropped a huge hint that the pair are father and child.
With Sam’s knowledge about the pond, Elliot’s reveal as the mystery baby, and Colton finding out the whole truth about his family before he died, it’s easy to forget other things happened in the last episode of The Way Home.
I for one was incredibly annoyed the binge-worthy TV show chose not to address Casey’s real identity, with Episode 10 instead ruling them out as Alice’s child. The showrunners have explained why this is, teasing there’s more of Casey’s story to be explored over time.
It goes without saying said storyline will link back to the Landry family, but what if fans are right and Jacob is their father? The Way Home Season 3 finale might have left a clue right under our noses.
The Way Home showrunners “fascinated” by Jacob and Casey pairing
According the The Way Home’s showrunners, Jacob and Casey make a “fascinating” pairing, having near-intentionally been kept apart up until now. The act of now suddenly helping Jacob in his battle against Louis Goodwin might suggest there’s more than just a sudden alliance switch there.
Alexandra Clarke told TVLine, “We were fascinated by that pairing. I think it felt like in a weird way, by the end of our season, Casey was only kind of coming up against Alice and Kat and we’d never actually had them come face-to-face with yet another time traveler. And Jacob, we’d realized, had really only probably heard about Casey through the stories the others are telling. So it was really fun to have them come face to face.
“But ultimately, the thing that they found was about helping Jacob, and so it was really nice to have a moment where they actually in person could help him versus doing it through Alice or doing it through Kat. Because at the end of the day, this is, as Jacob even says, his salvation, finding this will.”
Of course, it’s not only the will that’s made the sudden meeting between Jacob and Casey so fascinating. Casey also helped point Jacob in the right direction to discover who sent Del the letters about him. This is another mystery that was held back from us in the Season 3 finale, which arguably means this final scene between the two is leading to a bigger reveal in the future.
As for their relationship definitely being father and child, the odds are becoming ever more likely – regardless of what the showrunners say. We know Casey is a Landry, and with Alice now ruled out, Jacob becomes the next most likely candidate. Plus, the two look incredibly alike.
Now Jacob has disappeared yet again – though we think we know where his hiding place is – everything just got a lot more complicated. Annoyingly we’re going to have to wait for the best part of a year to get any concrete answers to this.
“The answer will be shared, of course it will. But I think there’s more story to tell and there’s more story to earn us that reveal rather than just kind of throw it away. It’s too big and important a reveal to just throw away in a quick scene in a finale episode. So I will say that they are telling the truth about not being Alice’s kid,” Clarke continued.
