The Way Home Season 3 character we need to watch isn’t a Landry at all

When it comes to present-day Port Haven, nobody’s more important than the Landrys. But The Way Home Season 3 finale begs to differ. Warning: SPOILERS ahead!

Season 3 has been a time of incredible growth for the Landry family. Del has finally time traveled (!) and made her peace with Colton‘s truth, and Alice has essentially saved the family by finding the answers they need while warming to romance with Max.

Kat has arguably had the most on her plate, settling the 1800s drama while finishing her affair with Thomas to fully commit to Elliot. She’s also dealing with Colton’s dying moments, trying to tell Kat he knew who she really was.

It’s the last scene of the Season 3 finale we need to pay the most attention to, though. With Season 4 confirmed, it’s a massive hint the most important character of all isn’t one I’ve mentioned yet.

We’ve already seen Elliot’s mom in The Way Home Season 3

Remember in Episode 9 when Alice met a random girl at Jasper’s in 1974? That was Elliot’s mom – and she’s embroiled in a much bigger mystery.

Let’s revisit what we know. The above scene showed the aftermath of Alice’s argument with Evelyn, who’s convinced going to San Francisco will mean she can break the spell Del has on Colton. After Evelyn leaves upset, a girl turns around to quote T.S. Elliot and says to Alice “Be the one to open the door. Fix things. Life’s too short for regrets.”

The answer to this apparent significance doesn’t come until Episode 10. Elliot reads the letter from his mom, addressed to him. He recognizes the words from a T.S. Eliot book, explaining the author was his namesake. Alice arrives, remembering the girl in 1974 who showed her the same book. “I think I met your mom,” Alice says, with Elliot not able to figure out how a clock – with an inscription from the same poem referenced in the letter – ended up in a wall built before the book was published.

Then he reads the letter again. “I jump for love” is a phrase used, implying Elliot’s mom time traveled too. “There’s only one way she could have done that… she had to go with a Landry,” Kat adds. We see Elliot’s mom write the note and leave it in a baby’s crib (surprise! Elliot is the mystery baby), while the half-mystery couple jump in the pond. Colton finds Elliot and brings him to Del, taking the baby indoors.

If we were in any doubt, Eliot’s mom (it’s still not quite clear what her name is, which is probably for a reason) is going to be a pivotal part of Season 4. We only know who half of the mystery couple is, having to be a Landry guy as that’s the only way she’s be able to use the pond.

Then, there are other questions. Where did she travel to? Who did she become? Have we already met her at another point in time and just never noticed? Season 4 will definitely need to revisit 1974 to get some answers… although that’s assuming Elliot’s mom was from that timeline to begin with.

I’m as confused as you are at this point, and we won’t get any solid answers until 2026. In the meantime, we’ve got 10 months to come up with our best theories.
