Medical dramas are back, baby, and plans for The Pitt Season 2 are already being revealed, with a new setting that takes place over a frantic holiday weekend.
Fans of ER and Grey’s Anatomy have had the time of their lives over the last couple of weeks with Max’s The Pitt. Starring Noah Wyle (who got his big break on the long-running NBC series ER), the new TV show focuses on a 15-hour shift in a busy hospital.
As the doctors deal with life-threatening emergencies and personal dramas, emotions and tensions run high throughout all 15 episodes – one for each hour of the fictional day.
Thankfully, The Pitt Season 2 is already in production, and the creators have just revealed when and where the new season is going to take place.
The Pitt Season 2 will be set over holiday weekend
According to executive producer R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt Season 2 will take place over Fourth of July weekend. And yes, it will cover a 15-hour shift once again!
The producers also announced that the new season will take place 10 months after the events of the first – the final episode of which drops on April 10.
Needless to say, there’s plenty of drama that could come through the hospital doors over Fourth of July weekend. And with the already high footfall increasing, it could mean that Season 2 becomes even crazier than the first round of episodes. (If you can even imagine it.)
Gathering at Deadline’s Contenders TV event, Wyle also spoke about the show’s unusual format, and what it means for major aspects, like casting.
For instance, every extra featured on the show remains employed during the entire season’s run. This is for continuity reasons, since the season takes place over the course of 15 hours.
“Guest actors who were on the show worked for months, oftentimes just appearing in the waiting room for a scene or two, and then being in the background and then eventually they have a scene,” EP John Wells said [via Deadline].
“We had wonderful actors who signed on to be background for four or five episodes and then had major scenes. So everybody was on set the entire time, including all of our regulars. The set is so deep and big that we see everything so everybody is there.”
