The Pitt Episode 14 failed to answer the show’s most important question to date

Thankfully for The Pitt‘s medical team, the fallout of the Pittfest shooting is finally over. But Episode 14 didn’t answer the most crucial question we had about what happened.
Since Episode 12, things have taken a turn for the worse. Casualties piled into ER thick and fast after a mass shooting happened at a local music festival, leaving the center overrun.
The carnage hasn’t even started to die down until two episodes later, with Robby unable to save Jake’s girlfriend Leah in the process. This is having its own aftermath, but doesn’t even begin to touch the sides of the bigger question at play.
In a way, the binge-worthy TV show has neatly wrapped up the Pittfest trauma, but one question is now deliberately going unanswered.
We still don’t learn who the shooter is in The Pitt Episode 14
Fans worked it out as early as last week – David was a red herring for The Pitt’s shooter plot. Annoyingly, Episode 14 doesn’t tell us exactly who it was.
But how much does this actually matter? While the ER begins to calm down, Gloria announces that a SWAT team has apprehended the shooter not too far from the festival’s site, having died with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. They were trying to make their getaway on foot with a bag full of ammo.
Annoyingly, this is as much as we find out. No name, no gender, no regret over the number of lives they’ve either taken or massively changed. But there’s a reason for this, and it leads back to David.
Since fans were introduced to him in Episode 1, David’s been teed up as the prime suspect for the shooting. Cassie even went as far as to get him handcuffed and placed under a mandatory 72-hour watch, leading everyone else to assume he was guilty. Instead, this is all building to a bigger plot that will likely explode in the season finale.
David’s mom was initially brought in to deal with the effects of caring for him, particularly after finding a list of girls he wanted to “hurt” in the pilot’s final scenes. This has built up to his mom now signing a form for him to be sectioned, which has obviously gone down like a lead balloon.
With Cassie’s arrest taking over, we’ve yet to see how this pans out for David, who is still being held in a separate room. But whatever comes next, it’s bound to be explosive.
