The Outer Worlds 2 Will Retail For $70 – PS5 Physical Edition Up For Preorder
The second entry in Obsidian’s first-person sci-fi RPG series, The Outer Worlds 2, launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 29, and preorders are available now. The long-awaited sequel will take players back to The Outer Worlds’ vision of the far future, introducing new locations to explore, factions to join, and companions to recruit, while bringing back the satirical humor and striking retro-futurist art style of the original game.
The Outer Worlds 2 was originally slated to be the first Xbox-published game priced at $80, but Microsoft backtracked on this plan on July 23, roughly six weeks after the price was announced. The Outer Worlds 2 now has a base price of $70. It’s one of several upcoming Microsoft-published games like Gears of War: Reloaded and Ninja Gaiden 4 that are also launching simultaneously on PS5 later this year.
Of course, for many Xbox and PC players, the game’s actual price is less of a concern since it will also be available on Game Pass on launch day. One month of Game Pass Ultimate costs $20/month, making it technically the most affordable way to play The Outer Worlds 2. However, you’ll only have access to the game as long as you’re subscribed. If you want to own The Outer Worlds 2–either digitally or physically–you’ll have to pick up either the $70 standard edition or the Premium Edition that includes a season pass, bonus DLC, and even early access to the full game. Both versions also include other extras for preordering ahead of time.

The Outer Worlds 2 Preorder Bonuses
Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack, which includes the following in-game items that will unlock at launch:

Additionally, preordering the The Outer Worlds 2 Premium Edition also gets you up to 5-day early access to the full game starting October 24.

The Outer Worlds 2 standard edition includes the base game on your platform of choice. If you secure your copy of the game ahead of launch, you’ll also get the Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack preorder bonus.
If the price still shows $80 at your retailer of choice, it should drop to $70 soon. And if you already preordered a copy, you will only wind up paying the $70 price, not the original $80.
$100 | Releases October 24
The Outer Worlds 2 is also available in a Premium Edition that was initially announced with a $100 price tag, though we imagine this could drop to $90 now.
The Premium Edition includes a Season Pass that will let you download the two post-launch story expansion DLC packs once they’re available. Preordering this version also gets you the Commander Zane’s Anti-Monopolistic Battle Pack preorder bonus, as well as early access to the full game five days early starting October 24. Physical PS5 and Xbox Series X preorders are available at Best Buy. Note that the Xbox version is a code in a box, not a disc. Nevertheless, this is the only “physical” Xbox version of the game.
Fans of The Outer Worlds series will also want to check out the upcoming The Art of the Outer Worlds 2 that launches a few weeks after the game on December 16. The 208-page art book will offer a look into the creation of The Outer Worlds 2 and the evolution of its art direction, featuring hundreds of illustrations, concept art pieces, and behind-the-scenes insights from the game’s developers, covering everything from the game’s diverse locations to the new cast of recruitable companions.
