The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2 title could be a big warning

The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2 may include the moment fans have been dreading since HBO’s adaptation began, if the rumors about its title are true.

The second season kicked off with an emotional, tense premiere, with Joel and Ellie leading estranged lives in Jackson. In the closing scene, with things frostier than ever between the pair, Abby and her squad arrived on a distant hilltop.

Those who played the game know what’s coming; it’s arguably the most infamous gaming moment of the past decade. Viewers oblivious to the events of Part 2 are in for a treat – but most of all, a big shock if it follows the events of The Last of Us game.

Episode 1 was titled ‘Future Days’, borrowing the name of a song of great importance to the original game. Episode 2 may follow suit, and it could be a warning about… someone’s fate.

Why The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2 title could be a spoiler

The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 2 is titled ‘Through the Valley.’

This was initially revealed by HBO’s schedule, which also confirmed ‘Future Days’ as the first episode’s title before removing it and leaving a general Episode 1 placeholder. If you look on the website, ‘Through the Valley’ has been removed (and a teaser with one especially telling detail has been taken down).

A fan on Reddit (u/Fargo_OKthen) who reported accurate details from the first episode also claimed Episode 2 is titled ‘Through the Valley’, and this has also been shared by other fan accounts on social media.

It’s a reference to two things. One, Ashley Johnson’s Ellie sang ‘Through the Valley’ in the first teaser trailer for The Last of Us Part 2 (which was steeped in meaning that wasn’t clear until its release), so it’s another nod to the games.

Two, and most importantly, it may signal what’s ahead for a major character. Just read the lyrics: “I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, and I fear no evil because I’m blind to it all.

“And my mind and my gun they comfort me, because I know I’ll kill my enemies when they come.”

In other words, there’s a chance we could see someone die in Episode 2. We know Abby wants to kill Joel “slowly”, but would the show dare to kill him off?

In the trailers, there also appears to be some sort of infected horde attack on Jackson, and Tommy will face off against a Bloater – perhaps this will lead to another major death. Or, maybe, the show is doing exactly what you think it’s going to do.

Until then, make sure you know when the next episode of The Last of Us Season 2 drops, read about Dina’s fate in the games, and find out why Eugene is so important in Season 2. You can also learn more about Stalkers.
