The Double Sided Design Won’t Work With Laptops Though
If you want affordable PCIe 5.0 storage, for your desktop or PS5 then ADATA’s XPG Mars 980 Blade is worth considering. TweakTown rated it at just over 14,000 MB/s sequential read and the sequential writes came close to that number as well. As with many inexpensive PCIe 5.0 drives, the XPG Mars 980 Blade uses Silicon Motion SM2508 and Micron B58R flash. ADATA chose to make it a double sided M.2 drive to reduce costs, as stacking flash dies 4 high is easier and yields more finished product. That does mean it is not a good idea to install in a laptop.
You can get 1TB, 2TB and 4TB models, and you should be able to find them for sale at $125, $190 and $350 respectively. That makes it one of the most affordable ways to get PCIE 5.0 into your system. It won’t win you any benchmark contests but it will serve you well when gaming and surfing.
