The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake could reportedly drop at any moment

Rumors of a ground-up remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion have been swirling for years, but insiders are now claiming the release will happen at any moment this month.

Skyrim is one of the most adored games of the modern era, but before that, it was Oblivion that took the Elder Scrolls series to new heights. Nearly a decade on from its 2006 launch, there have been rumblings that a full remake of the iconic RPG could be on the cards.

It was first thought that an announcement could come during the January Xbox Developer Direct, but the show came and went with Doom: The Dark Ages being Bethesda’s only representative.

Now, as the wait for Elder Scrolls 6 goes on, the rumor mill is turning once again, as industry insider Jeff Grubb has claimed that it’s due to arrive imminently.

Oblivion remake releases in April 2025, according to insider

Speaking on Giant Bomb’s Power Block stream, Grubb explained that sources close to the project told him that the long-awaited game will “shadowdrop pretty soon.”

“Some other rumors I’ve heard [say] April, and it’s April right now,” he said. “I’ve been told it’s going to shadowdrop at any moment this month.”

He went on to mention that it’s also possible that a surprise event could take place to officially announce the remake before releasing it during, rather than just a sudden launch, but he hasn’t heard anything just yet.

In terms of what an Oblivion remake will look like, previously leaked details have revealed that it will be more than just a simple remaster with improved visuals.

Information that emerged from a former Virtuos employee, who are said to be developing the project, found by MP1st mentioned that it will be “fully remade” in Unreal Engine 5 to make it feel like a modern RPG.

Their post also referenced a host of systems that will be reworked, such as stamina, sneak, blocking, and archery. Enemy reactions to hits, which have been a long-running criticism of both Oblivion and Skyrim, are also set to be adjusted, along with a refreshed HUD.

Beyond that, there are various details on how it will be changed to meet modern standards, but if these rumors are to be believed, we shouldn’t have to wait much longer to find out.
