The finale of 1923 Season 2 will mark the end of this era of Duttons for good, but Yellowstone fans are confused over the final episode count.
There are still plenty of threads hanging over 1923: The Duttons need to beat Donald Whitfield, Spencer and Alex need to be reunited, and either Alex or Liz need to safely have their baby.
That’s a lot at stake, and Taylor Sheridan‘s prequel series has so far been the subject of scrutiny from fans, who have criticized his hypersexualised plotlines and dragging out Spencer’s return home.
Now, there’s another spanner in the works. While fans previously assumed this season would have eight episodes (same as the first), that may not be the case after all.
1923 Season 2 will end with Episode 7
The final episode of 1923 Season 2 will arrive on Sunday April 6, meaning there are only seven episodes in total in Season 2 of this Western TV show.
That means fans will be getting one episode less than previously anticipated. But fear not: Episode 7 will be a special double-length feature. This essentially means you’re getting two episodes at the same time, so viewers aren’t necessarily being short-changed.
The episode (titled ‘A Dream and A Memory’) description is as follows: “Jacob and his crew eagerly await Spencer’s return at the train station; Teonna has a fateful run-in; Alexandra braves the cold.”
While the possibility of 1923 Season 3 remains under wraps for now, some of the show’s cast members are optimistic that there could be more story within this generation.
“They haven’t confirmed if it’s stopping here at season two, but I knew before we left to shoot season one ultimately where this was going,” Brandon Sklenar told The Hollywood Reporter.
“This story is going to continue one way or another, and I honestly don’t know. But there’s more Dutton story to be told for sure.”
Either way, Sheridan is currently in the midst of developing another prequel series, 1944. If anything, this may end up serving as a spiritual sequel to 1923, as we will no doubt learn more about the fates of some of the most beloved characters in this era.
