Target is giving customers who preordered a Switch 2 a free $50 Nintendo gift card if they didn’t receive their new console fast enough.
Nintendo fully revealed the Switch 2 in April 2025 and released the console just two months later in June. After a brief delay, pre-orders went live on April 24, and almost every store claimed orders would arrive on or right after launch.
Not everything went as planned, however, as some Target customers didn’t receive their new Nintendo console until well after June 5.
Three weeks later, on June 26, Target began sending $50 Nintendo gift cards to those affected by the slow shipping.

Customers received the gift card in an email from Target, apologizing for the slow shipping. It reads: “Thanks for your recent Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order. We appreciate your excitement for this release and your trust in shopping with Target. We hope you’re loving your new gaming system!
“We know you were hoping to receive your purchase sooner. Unfortunately, we didn’t make that happen. This isn’t the experience we intended, and we’re sincerely sorry. As a thank you for your patience and understanding, we’re including a complimentary code for one $50 Nintendo eShop Gift Card.”
According to a follow-up post from Wario on X, Target customer service revealed that the gift is only for users who received their Switch 2 after the June 6-11 promised delivery window.
Target isn’t the first company to give Switch 2 buyers a treat. On launch day, Walmart not only delivered almost all of its preorders before 9am, but some customers also received a free bottle of Coke and a can of Pringles.
