Streamer struck by lightning in shocking Twitch broadcast

A Twitch streamer claims he was struck by lightning live on stream, shocking fans and raising serious concerns for his safety.

On July 19, Twitch creator chrispymate was in the middle of a broadcast when a massive bolt of lightning reportedly hit near his home, sending a surge of electricity through his headphones.

The moment was captured live as the room lit up, the audio cut out, and the streamer suddenly sprinted off-camera. He returned shortly after, clutching his chest and visibly shaken.

“I’m gonna stop stream,” he told viewers. “A big thing of lightning hit and I felt lightning go through my earbuds. Oh my God, dude.”

“My heart is pounding now. My f**king head hurts. I’m not dead, so it’s fine.”

Fans immediately urged chrispymate to seek medical attention, but the streamer declined. He later took to Reddit to explain more about the situation, writing:

“A large bottom lightning struck outside my windows and my vision turned white entirely then I felt a strong jolt of electricity go through my headphones into my head and I bolted away lol.”

When a commenter warned that lightning strikes can cause irregular heart rhythms and suggested a trip to the ER, the streamer responded, “I in fact have not gone to the ER. I slept like a rock the next day which isn’t usual for me but felt really good. I may pop in to get a checkup just to be sure.”

This isn’t the first time a lightning strike has been caught affecting someone through their electronics.

In April, a teenage girl in Florida was struck by lightning through her charger while using TikTok. And in July, a 19-year-old woman also went viral after lightning hit her while she was scrolling Instagram.

As for chrispymate, he’s since resumed streaming, but at the time of writing, hasn’t developed any sort of superpowers.
