Stranger Things leak puts one character in danger after Will’s scream in Season 5 trailer

At long last, Netflix has revealed the release date for Stranger Things Season 5 in a new teaser trailer. While it doesn’t give much away, an earlier leak appears to show who Will is screaming at – and it doesn’t sound good.

Christmas 2025 will be turned upside down, as the hit sci-fi series will be airing its final chapter across three key dates this year: December 25, 26, and 31. That means that within the space of Seasons 4 and 5, we’ll have had four seasons of The Bear.

To say the wait has been long would be an understatement, compounded by the Duffer brothers’ lofty plans and the 2023 Hollywood strikes. But at least now there’s an end in sight, with the release dates revealed at Netflix’s Tudum 2025 event.

In the teaser trailer announcement, Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers can be seen screaming “run” to a mystery character, although a behind-the-scenes leak may reveal exactly who he’s shouting at.

Stranger Things Season 5 leak reveals who Will screams at in trailer

YouTuber Tate100T managed to sneak onto the set of Stranger Things Season 5, capturing footage of him driving past the cast and crew as they filmed the “run” scene. The audio appears to reveal that Will is addressing Steve Harrington (Joe Keery).

“Steve, you need to run!” he says, followed by a blood-curdling scream. If this is legitimate, it indicates everyone’s favorite Hawkins resident is in grave danger.

This would make sense. Steve ended Season 4 in one piece, but only just. After leading a mission into the Upside Down alongside Nancy and Robin, he was attacked by monstrous tentacles while trying to reach Vecna’s lair.

His emotional arc also contained worrying signs. He reaffirmed his bond with Dustin, rekindled romantic tension with Nancy, and talked about his wants for the future – a big red flag in Stranger Things terms, where characters often die just after making peace with themselves.

Now, heading into Season 5, the stakes are even higher. The synopsis confirms the group is hunting Vecna, but he’s disappeared, and Hawkins has been placed under military lockdown.

With the town fractured and Eleven in hiding, the gang will be more vulnerable than ever, and if Steve’s on the frontlines, he could be a prime target. Or, Will’s warning is just the very thing that helps him survive the final battle.

For now, it’s left fans worried. “I swear to God, if Steve dies I’m gonna cry,” said one, while another wrote, “If Steve goes, I’ll go!” A third added, “Steve definitely dying,” alongside a crying emoji.

Others are seeing it in a different light, with this person theorizing, “Wait, maybe he’s telling Steve to run because maybe Dustin just died and something’s after Steve and Will can see into the Upside Down.”

Another pointed out, “Fitting that Will says ‘Run’ in the Xmas lights to Joyce and then says ‘Run!’ again in the last season… full circle.”

And then there are those who are just impressed with the find. Tate100T captured the clip back in April 2024 during the production.

As one commenter wrote, “I remember back when you caught this and when I saw the teaser tonight I immediately remembered this epic catch! F**king amazing work!”

While you wait, check out the Stranger Things’ cast ages then and now, the characters most likely to die, and the new TV shows coming to Netflix this month.
