Split Fiction has only been available for a few weeks, but it’s already broken three massive Guinness World Records.
Released on March 6, 2025, by the developers of the super-popular co-op game It Takes Two, Split Fiction offers yet another unique experience.
It quickly began to receive overwhelmingly positive reviews right after release, and its player count on Steam surpassed 197,434 in just 24 hours.
On Friday, March 28, Guinness World Records revealed that Split Fiction has broken three different records, prompting a response from the studio’s founder.
Hazelight was already a developer known for making great co-op experiences, but now they have the records to back it.
Split Fiction breaks three world records
According to GWR, all three of Split Fictions records are focused on the fact the game offers local co-op for gamers to enjoy.
Here are all three records awarded to Split Fiction:
- Most played local co-op video game on Steam
- Most sold local co-op video game on Steam
- Most sold local co-op video game within one week of release
Shortly after Guinness World Records shared the Split Fiction news, game director Josef Fares responded, thanking fans for the success in the process.
“Wow, this is a fun surprise. Thanks, everyone,” he said.
Fans immediately began to flock to the replies of Fares’ post to share their support for the game and the success that it’s had since launch.
“Very happy my dev partner and I played through Split Fiction on release. It was a great weekend of gaming and the game is phenomenal. Great job Josef!” one user commented.
Another replied: “Congratulations!!! Well deserved! Masterpiece of a game!”
“The only problem with your games is they end… we want more!” shared a third fan.
This comes just weeks after GWR revealed that YouTube superstar MrBeast broke 44 records while filming his Amazon Prime video show, Beast Games. After the final episode of the show was released, they published a list of all the records the show now holds.
