Sony unveils ECM-L1 lavalier mic for enthusiasts

Sony introduces the ECM-L1, a new lavalier microphone designed for photography and videography enthusiasts. This latest addition to Sony’s audio lineup is an ideal companion for cameras such as the ZV-1F, ZV-1 II, ZV-E10 II, and ZV-E1, as well as other devices. It can also be paired with wireless microphone systems like the W2BT, making it a versatile choice for content creators.

While wireless microphones are currently a popular trend, Sony recognises the ongoing demand for more traditional wired options. Wired lavalier microphones, like the ECM-L1, are often more discreet than wireless transmitters, which require a mic box attached to the user’s clothing. Lavalier microphones have long been a staple in the broadcast industry, and the ECM-L1 seeks to bring this reliable technology back into the hands of enthusiasts.

The ECM-L1 is designed to deliver high-quality audio and is ideal for presenters speaking directly to the camera. Drawing on the legacy of Sony’s professional ECM-L77 microphone, the ECM-L1 features a robust mic capsule, a ceramic electrode plate, a durable brass casing, and a high-quality OFC 2.2mm cable. It also comes equipped with a screw connector and two types of windshields. With a standard 3.5mm connector, the ECM-L1 is compatible with a wide range of cameras and wireless mic systems, including those from other manufacturers.

Priced at €300 / £260, the Sony ECM-L1 is available for purchase from October 2024, offering a high-quality audio solution for content creators looking for a reliable, traditional microphone option.
