Sony FE 400-800mm f/6.3-8 G OSS Lens Image Leaked

SonyAlphaRumors has published leaked images of the “FE 400-800mm F6.3-8.0 G OSS” showing the entire lens body. At first glance, it closely resembles the popular FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS, but subtle differences near the lens barrel close to the mount indicate that this is indeed a new model rather than a simple update.
Rumors suggest that the 400-800mm is slightly larger and heavier, with an estimated weight of around 2.5 kg, compared to the 2115g of the 200-600mm. Despite the increase, the weight remains manageable for a lens reaching 800mm, making it potentially suitable for handheld shooting, which is notable for a super-telephoto zoom.
A key question remains whether the lens features an internal zoom mechanism or an extendable barrel. While the design hints at an internal zoom like the 200-600mm, comparisons with the Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM, which extends significantly when zoomed, leave room for speculation.
Sony is expected to officially announce the FE 400-800mm f/6.3-8 G OSS alongside the 16mm f/1.8 G in February 2025, likely around February 26, ahead of CP+ 2025.
