Severance Season 2 Episode 9 ending sets up “heated” Innie vs Outie showdown

We already know the Severance Season 2 finale is going to be long and violent, but the end of Episode 9, ‘The After Hours’, also sets up an epic Innie vs Outie battle. Warning: spoilers ahead!

Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan’s Innies started out the second chapter with one mission in mind: return to their desks and find Gemma/Ms Casey. However, things haven’t quite gone to plan.

Dylan’s falling in love with his Outie’s wife Gretchen, Irving’s been fired, Helena Eagan body snatched Helly, and Mark’s been busy undergoing the dangerous reintegration procedure with Asal Reghabi.

It doesn’t look like the reintegration has worked, and by the end of Season 2 Episode 9, Mark’s heading with Devon and Ms Cobel to the Damona Birthing Retreat to try and activate his Innie.

Season 2 finale prediction: Innie vs Outie Mark

As such, we can expect that the Severance Season 2 finale will showcase a “heated” argument between Mark’s Innie and Outie.

How do we know this? Well, The Washington Post wrote in its review back in January: “One of the new season’s finest dramatic sequences features an Innie and an Outie arguing via increasingly heated, videotaped monologues.”

Since this hasn’t happened yet, the likeliest conclusion to draw from this is that it’s Mark, given this is the exact reason he’s gone to the birthing retreat.

What the argument will be about is anyone’s guess, but it could have something to do with Cold Harbor and Gemma.

His Outie’s goal throughout all of this has been to save Gemma, and in the latest chapter of the Apple TV+ series, the pressure is on. As Cobel warns Mark about the Cold Harbor file, “If you’ve completed it, well… she’s already dead.”

Maybe Innie Mark doesn’t agree with siding with Cobel, or perhaps he doesn’t agree with the plan to save Gemma.

Or, they might come to blows about the fundamental issue with the severance procedure: why Outie Mark brought him into existence in the first place.

Whatever it turns out to be, we know it’s going to be either a) heartbreaking b) frustrating or c) all of the above.
