SanDisk launches PRO-CINEMA CFexpress Type A card

SanDisk has introduced the PRO-CINEMA CFexpress Type A card, its latest addition to a growing range of high-performance storage solutions designed specifically for professional video creators. With a focus on reliability, speed, and ruggedness, the new memory card meets the demanding requirements of 4K and 8K video workflows, especially in cinema and broadcast production environments.

The PRO-CINEMA CFexpress Type A is built to meet SanDisk’s stringent “PRO-CINEMA” spec—a benchmark that guarantees sustained write speeds of at least 200 MB/s. This is especially crucial for filmmakers recording in high bit-rate codecs, where dropped frames can ruin otherwise perfect takes. The card’s maximum read speed is rated at 800 MB/s, with a top write speed of 700 MB/s, providing fast offload times and real-time responsiveness during capture.

Available in capacities up to 960 GB, with 480 GB and 160 GB variants also offered, the card is aimed at users of Sony Alpha series cameras such as the FX3, FX6, and a7S III, which support CFexpress Type A. The robust build includes resistance to shocks, X-rays, and extreme temperatures, making it a reliable companion in challenging shooting conditions.

SanDisk has also equipped the PRO-CINEMA CFexpress card with a VPG400 certification, ensuring it maintains a minimum sustained write speed of 400 MB/s, far exceeding the minimum requirements for high-resolution, high-frame-rate video. The card’s rugged design also includes thermal management features to prevent overheating during long recording sessions.

Photographers and videographers working on set or in the field will appreciate the card’s durability and performance, which together minimise workflow interruptions and ensure smooth footage capture, even in extended shooting scenarios.
