Romulus overtakes Deadpool & Wolverine with $100 million debut
Alien: Romulus has made an impressive debut as it overtakes Deadpool & Wolverine at the US box-office.
According to Variety, the latest movie in the Alien franchise earned $41.5 million at the US box 0ffice, and a staggering $108.2 million globally.
Deadpool & Wolverine recently surpassed Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. However, Alien: Romulus‘ successful opening has knocked the Marvel blockbuster from its three-week-long top spot at the box office.

Set 20 years after the events of Alien, Romulus follows Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and other space colonists as their scavenging mission leads them to the Renaissance, a decommissioned station.
Not long after their arrival, the group must fight to stay alive as they battle terrifying and threatening lifeforms.
In our three star review, Digital Spy said: “In terms of thrills, Alien: Romulus delivers and – depending on your tolerance level – terrifies. The familiarity could mean that long-term fans might not be as scared as they’d hope even if, one Aliens-coded sequence aside, the movie veers more towards the survival horror of the first movie.”

Directed by Fede Alvarez, the movie received the second-highest opening in the Alien franchise so far, and currently boasts an impressive 81% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Elsewhere, Blake Lively’s It Ends With Us has earned $180 million globally, after just ten days of release. Following a strong $50 million debut, ticket sales for the movie adaptation declined by 52% in its second weekend.
It missed out on second place at the box-office as Deadpool & Wolverine pulled ahead. The superhero adventure sequel added a solid $29 million to its earnings.
Alien: Romulus is out in cinemas now. Previous films are available on Disney+.
