Roblox CEO wants adults to use platform as a dating service

Roblox CEO David Baszucki has doubled down on his hopes of allowing the video game platform to be a place where consenting adults can find love.

When you think of Roblox, an adult dating service probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. With tens of millions of daily users, primarily of a younger demographic, the platform houses experiences of all kinds.

From playing competitive games to maintaining your own farm, community creations have made it one of the biggest attractions of all time. Yet, Roblox Corporation is still looking to expand its reach. Namely, the company is targeting adults with content and experiences designed for mature users.

This plan is no secret, given Roblox added a higher maturity rating back in June, 2023. However, now, CEO Baszucki has reaffirmed his plans of catering to a new type of experience within Roblox. One that allows adults to find love in the digital world.

Roblox CEO wants adults to go on dates in-game

With its higher maturity rating, Roblox is able to provide experiences that feature intense violence, realistic blood, crude humor, alcohol, and romantic themes. In order to access such content though, users need to prove their age.

Players over the legal age are required to share identification documents in order to prove it. Only then can said ‘romantic themes’ come into play, at least on paper. There’s little in the way to prevent an underage user from grabbing their parent’s ID.

Once through, however, Roblox’s CEO hopes the platform can provide a cozy space for relationships to bloom. Through movie screenings, concerts, and mixers, all hosted in the virtual space, adults can get to know one another on a more intimate level. To Baszucki, it’s a solution to a modern problem, a “loneliness epidemic” as he called it.

“Thousands of adults will meet for the first time in Roblox dating experiences and subsequently form real-life relationships,” he said in a 2024 presentation.

“I think a lot of people who are too afraid to go on a real-life date might find it easier to have a virtual date to start, and then if they connect, move to the physical world,” Baszucki doubled down in 2025 on the TechStuff podcast, as first spotted by DualShockers.

“I think of [Roblox] as a platform to help loneliness and help bring connection.

“Can we do this in a way that is more civil and higher quality than any other company could?”

That’s the dilemma, and while it’s early days in the grand scheme of Baszucki’s plans to make Roblox a genuine dating platform, the company certainly has its work cut out. It was only a few months ago that a 10-year-old was reportedly kidnapped by a 27-year-old man after they allegedly met on Roblox.
