RME Introduces Enhanced Driver Options and Firmware Updates for macOS USB 3 Interfaces

RME announced significant updates to its macOS USB 3 interface lineup, ensuring optimal performance and seamless compatibility for Apple Silicon devices. These updates include advanced driver support, firmware improvements, and a simplified user experience. RME now offers three driver options for macOS with Apple Silicon and USB 3 interfaces, including the Fireface UFX III, MADIface XT II, Digiface Dante, and Digiface Ravenna.
The RME updates implemented Apple’s modern and recommended DriverKit architecture approach (Current Driver and Firmware: DriverKit Driver: v4.27), while the Kernel Extension driver legacy option currently is still functional. The new Class Compliant (CC) mode – Apple’s built-in audio driver – is now controlled by RME’s settings dialog and TotalMix FX. This makes CC mode a practical fallback option for systems experiencing audio issues, while retaining the familiar RME interface functionality.
The RME TotalMix FX software also became fully operational in CC mode, providing users with the flexibility and control they expect from RME interfaces. However, CC mode remains limited in features, like fixed safety offsets and no playback data visualization in DigiCheck NG, and higher latency than RME’s own drivers.
Additionally, the Digiface Dante and Digiface AVB multichannel interfaces now utilize Apple’s native network driver for their internal network port, eliminating the need for third-party software and streamlining installation.
Switching to CC mode for Digiface Dante and Digiface Ravenna is quick and easy, performed through the Mac Firmware Update Tool by simply selecting or deselecting the newly added CC mode option.

According to RME, these latest firmware updates address key USB 3 issues and enhance stability during intensive audio, MIDI, and network usage. Improved driver deinstallation further ensures a clean system environment, preventing conflicts between legacy and modern drivers.
The firmware updates are available for all supported devices, with detailed release notes on RME’s website.
