Ricoh Announces Development of GR IV, Launch Set for Later This Year

Ricoh has revealed that it is developing the highly anticipated GR IV, the next chapter in its celebrated series of fixed lens compact cameras. Set to be released later this year, the Ricoh GR IV promises significant upgrades while staying true to the GR line’s reputation for delivering high image quality, rapid response, and portability. Notably, Ricoh will also introduce an HDF version, designed with a built-in highlight diffusion filter to offer photographers more creative control straight out of the box.

Both the standard GR IV and the GR IV HDF will feature a newly designed lens, a refreshed processor, and a new sensor with 25.74 million effective pixels—likely the same high-performance 26MP BSI sensor found in Sony a6700. The camera boasts an 18.3mm F2.8 lens (28mm equivalent), equipped with a 2EV ND filter and a sophisticated optical formula of seven elements in five groups, including three aspherical lenses for enhanced sharpness.
Additional key specifications include five-axis image stabilization, a versatile shutter speed range from 1/400 sec to 30 sec, and a generous 53GB of internal storage paired with a UHS-I Micro SD card slot. The GR IV will also offer a 3.-inch, 1.037 million-dot LCD and support Full HD video up to 60p. Despite its powerful feature set, the camera remains lightweight at just 262g.
While Ricoh is still considering whether to include a built-in flash, it has confirmed that the GR III will be discontinued in July 2025, with the GR IV replacing it in autumn 2025, as the GR IIIx remains available.
