Realtek Semiconductor and Alango Technologies Partner to Offer Advanced Solution for In-Car Communication

Realtek Semiconductor and Alango Technologies, have announced a collaboration to deliver a joint solution aimed at facilitating In-Car Communication (ICC) between the driver and passengers to improve safety, convenience, and overall satisfaction during travel. According to Alango, the solution uses its ICC software package ported and optimized for the Realtek ALC5575 audio processor. The Alango ICC technology suite running on ALC5575 was successfully demonstrated by Realtek to Computex visitors in June 2024.

As a leading developer of advanced signal processing technologies, Alango Technologies delivers a powerful set of DSP solutions to improve safety and convenience for drivers and passengers. Millions of vehicles and dozens of car models on the road today are powered by Alango’s advanced processing technologies for voice and audio, and the automotive OEMs and their supply chain partners have for many years relied on Alango’s expertise in this domain.

Alango’s SafeTalk is an example of a suite of solutions that enables In-Car Communication (ICC) between the driver and the rear passengers without the driver or the passengers needing to raise voices or, for the driver, to turn around and face the passengers. In a one-way system, the driver’s voice is picked by the hands-free communication microphone, amplified and played through the rear speakers. In a two-way system, another microphone picks up the rear passenger voices that are played via the front speakers.

Alango’s SafeTalk includes Acoustic Feedback Cancellation, Noise Reduction, Automatic Volume & Equalization, and several other advanced signal processing features operating with minimal latency that is unnoticeable to the vehicle occupants. It supplements Alango’s recognized Voice Communication Package (VCP), the voice enhancement solution implemented in over 40 million vehicles and aftermarket automotive products on the road.

This new collaboration with Realtek benefits vehicle OEMs and their Tear 1 suppliers simplifying the integration times while improving the overall system performance. Alango’s ICC software enriches and demonstrates the advanced capabilities of the Realtek ALC5575 open platform. Essential features in Alango’s in-car communication technology, such as advanced noise reduction, effectively suppressing background noise, or robust acoustic feedback cancellation, can be fully optimized for maximum efficiency in the Realtek ALC5575.

The ALC5575 platform is ideal for in-car communication applications, benefiting from a dedicated DSP ensuring minimal latency and smooth communication between drivers and passengers. Taking its standard ICC features even further, Alango’s optional adaptive beamforming that focuses on the speaker’s voice while minimizing background noise is improved by the ultra-low latency processing, facilitating real-time communication. Additionally, both one-way (driver to rear seat) and two-way (driver to rear seat, rear seat to driver) communication options are available. And Realtek’s ALC5575 Automotive AI Audio DSP adds even more advanced audio technologies into the In-Vehicle-Infotainment (IVI) with minimal integration efforts.

“Alango’s team is very excited to cooperate with Realtek to simplify integration of In-Car Communication into our mutual customers’ products. Realtek ALC5575 integrating a highly efficient Cadence HiFi5 DSP core offers enough power to achieve the best sound quality while reducing the latency associated with other solutions on the market. We sincerely value the exceptional support and technical resources provided by Realtek throughout our project collaborations,” states Dr. Alexander Goldin, CEO of Alango Technologies.

Realtek’s ALC5575 Automotive AI Audio DSP adds an embedded Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that enables advanced AI audio technology with significant breakthroughs in bidirectional noise suppression and audio quality. The enhanced computing power of the ALC5575 fully supports the advanced audio processing features required for effective IVI and ICC systems through Over-the-Air (OTA) channels.

“Our Automotive AI Audio DSP ALC5575 enables IVI systems to enter the AI era and provides both drivers and passengers with the best audio solution when considering speech quality, background noise suppression, and music,” adds Yee-Wei Huang, Realtek’s Vice President and Spokesman. “Our in-car communication feature offers you a truly relaxing user experience.”

Realtek’s patented technology, along with many years of accumulated audio product development and experience, has resulted in an ideal combination of hardware and AI audio algorithms that can be applied to automotive audio. It can also be extended for applications in commercial products such as audio video conference systems, high-end audio systems, and other fields.

Automotive companies interested in integrating in-car communication into their products are encouraged to contact Alango or Realtek for more information.
