Pokimane got emotional on stream while thanking loyal viewers and fellow content creators for their support amid a string of recent controversies.
Imane ‘Pokimane‘ Anys has long been the biggest female star on Twitch. As the most-followed personality on the platform and one of the most popular influencers across all of social media, anything Pokimane does certainly draws a ton of attention.
It’s been a challenging few weeks for the streamer, however, with a slew of controversies dragging her down. It all started by recounting a scandal with a former Twitch staff member who allegedly faked a relationship with Pokimane before manipulating others. Since bringing up this difficult situation, it’s been one viral controversy after another.
From stalking incidents to general harassment, criticism for merely posting selfies, and even comments about ‘hating the rich’ coming under fire, drama has been rife of late. Now, taking to stream on April 23, Pokimane got emotional in thanking those who have stood by her side through it all.
Pokimane emotionally thanks loyal supporters amid controversies
“It’s weird to think about how many people have opinions about me,” Pokimane posited during her latest Twitch stream. “Especially people who probably never consume any of my content, which is understandable, that’s just what happens when you’re online for so long.”
This has been the case with a number of recent incidents as outlined above, and Pokimane admitted it “sometimes bothers” her when she’s brought up “in circles I don’t affiliate with, or that are not part of my community.”
There is a silver lining from her perspective though. While under fire, it helps remind her who the real supporters are, she explained.
“The upside is that sometimes it brings such nice people to my defense. Like, I’m shocked. My heart is warm. I am flattered when I see people stand up for me that I never expected, especially other streamers.”
Most recently, the likes of Hasan took a moment to speak up in defense of Pokimane and her comments on ‘hating’ the ultra-rich. “You want rich people to have takes like this,” he said to his audience.
