Poker Face Season 2 Episode 2 ending explained: Who is Beatrix Hasp?

Poker Face Season 2 continues with a murder at a funeral home – here’s who did it and how Charlie ultimately solves the mystery, plus everything you need to know about the mysterious Beatrix Hasp.

Poker Face follows Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie Cale as she travels from town to town solving murder after murder.

Thanks to her lie-detecting skills, she knows when’s something is up, while her brilliant mind means she’s normally able to quickly and efficiently identify the killer.

In Episode 1 of Season 2, she was pitting her wits against multiple Cynthia Erivos, while in Episode 2 – titled ‘Last Looks’ – her nemesis is played by Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito. You can check out the Poker Face release schedule here, while that instalment gets explained below, meaning SPOILERS ahead…

Whodunnit in Poker Face Season 2 Episode 2?

Fred Finch (Giancarlo Esposito) is the killer in Poker Face Season 2 Episode 2, murdering his wife Greta (Katie Holmes).

Fred is the owner of a funeral parlour that’s being used as the location for a movie shoot, and during the episode, Fred realises it’s also the perfect place to kill his wife and cover it up.

He murders her by smashing Greta on the back of the head with an iron fire poker, then incinerating her body in the basement of the building.

He then takes her remains – not ashes – and presses them into a vinyl recording of his favorite song: ‘Sleep Walk’ by Santo & Johnny.

Fred’s motive in ‘Last Looks’ explained

When Greta lost her family at the age of 18, Fred oversaw their funeral, took her under his wing, and married the much younger woman.

But Greta felt increasingly trapped in the union, and the film crew – as well as Charlie (who happens to be playing a corpse) – inspire her to leave him and move to Miami to start life anew.

But Fred doesn’t want a divorce, so rather than lose her, decides to murder Greta.

How does Charlie catch Fred?

Charlie catches Fred out in multiple lies – thanks to her ability to sniff out falsehoods – then two mistakes involving a light and a phone bring about his downfall.

Blood spatter from the deadly blow to Greta’s head ends up on a lightbulb, which Charlie spots. She also realises that the photo he sends to prove she’s alive is actually from three years ago.

Charlie confronts him, and Fred knocks her out, sticks her in a coffin, and plans to incinerate her too. But Cale escapes, blows up the incinerator with her vape, and vacates the flaming parlour while Fred remains, burning alive as he listens to ‘Sleep Walk.’

But Episode 2 isn’t done there, as while she’s making her escape, mob boss Beatrix Hasp puts a gun to Charlie’s head.

Beatrix (Rhea Perlman) is the head of the five families, owner of the Hasp Casino in Atlantic City, and someone whom Charlie angered in Season 1, meaning she’s clearly out for revenge, which potentially makes her Season 2’s overarching villain.

The episode concludes with Charlie finding a cigarette in her car’s glove compartment, and putting it in her mouth. Beatrix then appears behind her and says: “You know better than that Charlie Cale. Those things will kill ya.”

“Beratrix Hasp, huh?” responds Charlie, and Hasp ends the episode by saying: “We’ve got some unfinished business, pal. Drive!”
